Vision and Rationale

BLR Reads was conceived not just as a repository of books, but as a dynamic civic space where ideas circulate, conversations are sparked, and communities form around literature and culture. Opening BLR Reads to outreach and collaborations has been a key evolution in its journey — transforming the library into an interactive platform shaped by readers, writers, artists, and cultural practitioners.

The Author of the Month Series builds directly on this philosophy. It positions BLR Reads as a year-long curatorial platform that invites diverse authors into meaningful dialogue with the library’s community, strengthens ties with literary networks, and amplifies BLR Reads’ role as a cultural hub in Bengaluru.

Objectives

• Expand Literary Engagement: Cultivate reader participation and sustained interest in contemporary and local writing.
• Strengthen Community & Collaborative Networks: Build partnerships with authors, publishers, academic institutions, literary festival organisers, and media.
• Promote Dialogue Across Disciplines: Encourage interdisciplinary discussions between authors and audiences — blending literature with history, design, urbanism, and lived city experience.
• Elevate BLR Reads’ Profile: Position BLR Reads as a notable destination in Bengaluru’s cultural calendar, bridging libraries with city life and cultural discourse.

Series Structure

Monthly Author Spotlight (February – December)

• Each month, one author is featured.
• Book discussion and Q&A around the author’s most recent or relevant book.
• Format: in-person at BLR Reads with live audience.

Complementary Activities

• Curated reading lists on each author’s themes.
• Short talks or panels connecting the book with wider civic or cultural questions relevant to Bengaluru and beyond.

• Increase footfall and membership participation at BLR Reads.
