Walk on Bangalore – From Tanks to Taps

14 February

As part of the Building a Resilient Bengaluru project, supported by Bengaluru Sustainability Forum, we’re bringing back our interactive floor activity exploring the city’s evolving relationship with water. Get ready to let your imagination fly!

Why is Bangalore—unlike most major cities around the world—not built near a perennial source of water? How has this geographical reality shaped the evolution of its infrastructure, culture, and people’s everyday relationship with water?

Walk on Bangalore: Between Tanks and Taps is an interactive research-based session by the Mod Foundation that explores the city’s unique and evolving relationship with water. From its natural topography and historic manmade tank systems to the arrival of piped water and rapid urban expansion, this experience unpacks how the city’s lifeline has shifted over time.

Today, Bangalore faces mounting water crises—frequent shortages, over-extraction of groundwater, and a fragile dependence on distant sources. We believe the key to understanding and overcoming these challenges lies in looking back: in learning how we got here, what we’ve gained, and what we’ve lost along the way.

What to Expect:

  • Immersive Floor Maps that let you trace the city’s waterscapes
  • Engaging Questions designed to prompt reflection and dialogue
  • Interactive Storytelling on how our connection to water has changed—and continues to evolve
  • Insights into urban systems, growth patterns, and the politics of water access

This isn’t just a walk-through history—it’s a step into the living, breathing urban story of Bangalore’s water.

Join us to reimagine the city through its most vital resource.
