SUMMARY:Deepika Arwind in conversation with Shabari Rao
DESCRIPTION:The Author of the Month Series is conceived as a year-long curatorial programme at BLR Reads – Library and Archive\, reinforcing the library’s identity as an open cultural and civic space. Rooted in BLR Reads’ philosophy of reading beyond books\, the series will feature one author each month in focused book discussions that connect literature with broader themes of the city\, history\, design\, culture\, and everyday lived experiences. The initiative seeks to deepen reader engagement\, encourage sustained community participation\, and cultivate collaborations with authors\, publishers\, academic institutions\, and cultural organisations. As an outreach effort\, the series will increase BLR Reads’ visibility\, strengthen its networks\, and position it as a regular and meaningful presence within Bengaluru’s literary and cultural landscape. \nThe second session will centre on the book – Good Arguments\, featuring a conversation between Deepika Arwind and Shabari Rao\, further positioning the series as a vibrant space for dialogue\, reflection\, and shared learning.  Set against the evolving cultural fabric of Bengaluru the book traces\, Delphi’s theatre journey which intertwines with artistic discovery\, friendships\, and social upheaval\, shaping her identity within the city’s vibrant yet challenging creative landscape. \nAuthor of the month – Arwind Deepika \nDeepika Arwind is a writer\, artist and performer between Berlin and Bangalore. She always wanted to say that she divides her time between two places\, and now that she does\, it’s far less glamorous than it sounds. It’s mostly paperwork\, flights and subletting. She has over 15 years of experience working in the theatre in India and beyond. Her theatre has been and continues to be produced internationally. Good Arguments is her debut novel. \n\n\nShabari Rao \n\n\n\n\n\nShabari Rao is an artist and educator from Bangalore\, India. Her work engages with interdisciplinary research in embodiment. As an artist she performs\, directs\, curates\, teaches\, and writes. Over the last 20 years\, her work has been supported and presented through conferences\, festivals\, residencies\, and publications in cities as diverse as Shanghai\, New York\, Vienna\, Cape Town\, and Melbourne\, to name a few. Shabari has held several academic positions. Currently\, she designs and delivers interdisciplinary courses in higher education settings\, most recently at BITS School of Law\, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences\, Mumbai. \n\n\n\nRSVP Here!

SUMMARY:Roots To Routes
DESCRIPTION:Roots to Routes is an interactive workshop that explores the deep connection between soil health and gut health. Through conversation\, reflection\, and hands-on engagement\, the session traces the journey of food — from local farms to global supply chains — and questions how modern food systems impact both personal wellbeing and planetary health. \nBy reconnecting participants to what is seasonal\, native\, and locally grown\, the workshop invites a more conscious relationship with food. Roots to Routes is not just about what we eat\, but about understanding the ecological\, cultural\, and systemic routes that shape our plates — and how small shifts in awareness can lead to healthier bodies and more resilient communities. \nRegister Here!

Challenging traditional approaches to urban design and planning\, the book argues that resilient futures begin with making the full complexity of cities understandable to all. Drawing from cultural anthropology\, systems thinking\, behavioral science\, economics\, and technology\, Jain proposes fresh frameworks to address long-standing gaps in housing\, transport\, healthcare\, education\, and governance. Embracing uncertainty rather than resisting it\, he makes a case for adaptive\, inclusive cities that are vibrant\, healthy\, and prepared for change.\n\nSpeaker Note:\nArun Jain is a multidisciplinary urban designer and strategist with over four decades of experience across professional practice and academia. This includes institutions\, city executive positions\, and the UN. His professional contributions span 165 cities across 46 countries\, impacting over 90 public and private sector urban development projects. Arun has taught at six universities with contributions in both print and digital media. His new book “Reframing Cities for Resilience: Embracing Complex & Uncertain Futures” is published by Routledge. SUMMARY:Public Realm in India
DESCRIPTION:Mod Foundation\, in collaboration with Charles Correa Foundation\, presents the exclusive screening of the Nagari Short Film Competition 2025. \nThis year’s theme\, Public Realm in Urban India\, explores and documents the character of public spaces in Indian cities. Conventionally\, public spaces are understood as places open and accessible to all\, such as maidans\, parks\, and waterfronts. However\, the density and everyday dynamics of Indian cities expand this idea to include streets\, footpaths\, markets\, alleyways\, and transport infrastructure. These spaces function as vibrant arenas of daily life where multiple activities unfold simultaneously. The public realm in India is therefore layered and constantly shifting\, shaped by patterns of use\, scale\, and social interaction that vary across time\, seasons\, and communities. It is within these spaces that urban culture is most visibly expressed and negotiated. With public space at its core\, Nagari will explore how people across caste\, class\, gender\, and age engage with and shape the public realm. \nJoin us for an evening of short film screenings followed by a Q&A with the CCF team and the filmmakers. \nRSVP Here!

Named after a poem by Arvind Krishna Mehrotra\, whose work many of us cherish\, the series has always been an open\, unthemed space for attentive listening and inspired reading.\n\nThe community is thrilled to bring Cluster Fig into a physical setting at the BLR Reads – Library and Archive and this in-person edition is dedicated to the luminous\, incisive poetry of Wisława Szymborska. We hope to celebrate a Sunday morning through the singular wit\, irony\, tenderness and stunning clarity we find in her poetry! \nAll poetry-lovers are welcome! SUMMARY:The Bengaluru Climate Party
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Party in collaboration with Mod Foundation presents the 14th edition of the Bengaluru Climate Party with a focus on Hidden Water Systems: Walking the line between History and Innovation \nIt’s almost summertime in Bengaluru…the time when the city makes it to the news every year for its water crisis. As we continue to face recurring water challenges in the city\, this session shifts the focus from crisis to understanding\, unpacking how historical systems\, governance and innovation shape the way water flows through the city today. Through Walk on Bengaluru\, an immersive\, research-based experience curated by MOD Foundation\, participants will engage with large-scale floor maps\, trace the transition from tank systems to modern supply networks and build a deeper spatial understanding of the city’s waterscapes. \nThe session also brings together two perspectives through a dialogue on systems and solutions. Pavan Srinath\, managing partner of WELL Labs\, reflects on policy shifts and climate strategies shaping a more resilient Bengaluru\, while Vikas Brahmavar\, co-founder of Boson Whitewater\, shares on-ground innovations in wastewater recovery and circular water systems. Together\, the session offers a data-backed\, multi-layered view into the city’s invisible water infrastructure inviting participants to see Bengaluru through a new lens. \nRSVP Here! \n
