SUMMARY:Multispecies Hackathon by Elephant Academy - A Socratus Initiative
DESCRIPTION:The Multispecies Hackathon brings together students\, researchers\, designers\, technologists\, and storytellers to reimagine our relationship with the natural world by centering the perspectives\, needs\, and agency of non-human life. By combining AI\, computer vision\, remote sensing\, hardware\, and new media with deep ecological thinking\, participants build solutions that promote biodiversity\, enable coexistence\, and advance conservation. \nIn a city as dense with multispecies life as Bengaluru\, coexistence is not just a necessity. It can also be a source of joy\, connection\, and a deeper sense of place. \nOver two days\, teams will build real tools\, ideas\, and interventions for a world beyond humans\, combining AI\, computer vision\, remote sensing\, hardware\, and new media with ecological thinking. \n🧠 Tracks: Human-Wildlife Coexistence · Biodiversity · Conservation\n🤝 Mentors: Ecology · Technology · Design · Journalism\n🏆 Top teams get more than a trophy. Sshhh… \nA traveling hackathon series that began in Kochi and is journeying across the world\, bringing together people working across disciplines to build solutions that centre non-human life. \nPresented by Elephant Academy\nA Socratus Initiative \nThis is a free event. RSVP HERE.

SUMMARY:Data Jam: Assessing Stormwater Drains
DESCRIPTION:The Stormwater Datajam invites participants to explore Bengaluru’s stormwater drain (SWD) systems through collaborative\, data-driven investigation. Using datasets generated from guided citizen audits across the city\, participants will examine how stormwater infrastructure functions\, identify causes of localised flooding\, and explore improvements needed across different parts of the network.   \nDatajams are day-long\, in-person events that bring people together to work creatively with data. Participants form teams of 5–6 members\, choose a problem to investigate\, and analyse possible solutions using available datasets. Throughout the day\, teams collaborate\, interpret findings\, and develop proposals\, before presenting their ideas to peers and experts. The outcomes are documented online as articles\, contributing creative insights to public discourse and supporting innovative approaches for better cities for governments and other stakeholders to consider.  \nThe Datajam is part of Building a Resilient Bengaluru\, an initiative by Mod Foundation in partnership with Oorvani Foundation\, supported by the Bengaluru Sustainability Forum Small Grants Programme. The initiative combines an online masterclass\, Guided Citizen Audits\, and the Datajam to deepen understanding of Bengaluru’s stormwater systems and build a shared\, public evidence base on their condition\, governance\, and everyday challenges. All audit data feeds into a public\, open-access dashboard and an interactive stormwater map\, making citizen observations visible\, comparable\, and usable for wider civic and planning conversations.  \nRSVP Here.

SUMMARY:Datajam - Bangalore Air Quality
DESCRIPTION:OpenCity.in organised the “Bengaluru Air Quality” Datajam in the BLR Design Centre at Church Street\, Bengaluru – 560001. The Center for Study of Science\, Technology and Policy (CSTEP)\, Sensing Local\, MOD Foundation and UrbanEmissions.info were the partners for the event. MOD Foundation were also the event partners providing their venue for the datajam. \n\n\n\nTwenty-five participants from diverse backgrounds – GIS\, Data analysis\, statistics\, policy\, students\, academia participated in the day long event and looked at various aspects of air quality and how it affects life in Bengaluru. The participants were split into four teams who came up with their different problem statements. \n\n\n\nThe problem statements chosen by the four teams were: \n\n\n\n\nEffect of Air Quality on Metro Rail ridership.\n\n\n\nDo poorer road networks lead to poor air quality because of circuitous commutes?\n\n\n\nComparison of a residential area vs industrial and how the air quality in each is affected by land use\, with a comparison of Peenya and Jayanagar.\n\n\n\nLinking air quality and real estate prices\, and developing an air quality rating for each ward based on different parameters that affect air quality.
